Polishing your golf clubs should be a standard part of your golf club maintenance routine. Polishing golf clubs not only improves the cosmetic appearance of golf clubs, but it also protects the clubs against environmental factors such as dirt and water. Polishing golf clubs also helps maintain a clean club face, which assures players that each ball struck is not affected from debris that may be on the face of the club.

  1. Cleaning the clubs thoroughly before a good polish.

  2. Mix two tablespoons of mild liquid dish-washing soap in a bucket with hot water.

  3. Any liquid dish soap will be adequate, but specialty soaps can also be used. Soak the clubs for several minutes to help loosen any debris that may be ingrained in the grooves of the club face.

  1. Gently work the hot water and soap over the face and back of the golf club with a toothbrush or medium-bristled brush.

  2. Scrub the club with medium pressure until it appears clean. Rinse the club with clean water.

  1. Dry the clubs with a towel or rag. Make sure the clubs are thoroughly dried before moving on to Step 4.

  1. Apply any metal polish or car wheel polish to the golf clubs. Most polishes can be applied with a soft cloth or towel. Let them sit for a minute, then wipe the polish from the clubs. Spray polishes are also available. Spraying or wiping the shafts with polish can also help protect against rust.
