Ways to Encourage a Healthy Lifestyle

You wake up early in the morning and rush out the door. You speed on the street hoping you will make it to work on time. For lunch, maybe you buy a cheap snack from the vending machine. By the time you get home from work you are exhausted and feel, well, not so healthy. Without significantly changing your life around, there are ways to encourage yourself into a healthy lifestyle.

Get Up and Get Moving

One of the most important things to think about when pondering a healthy lifestyle is physical activity. In order to move stagnant energy and get your circulation pumping, you need to move your body. Clean your house. Ride your bike. Walk the farmer's market. Physical activity does not have to be a boring hour on the elliptical. It can be fun, outdoors, with the wind in your hair and the sun in your face. Get creative. Think about what your favorite physical activity as a child was, and do that for at least 30 minutes, three times per week.

Think Healthy Snacks

We all get hungry, and we all need to get. But maybe you can come up with ways to choose differently. For example, the next time you get the empty feeling in the pit of your stomach, pause for a moment before reaching for the convenient bag of chips. Are you in the mood for something salty? Try almonds, cashews or peanuts. Do you need something sweet? Grab a bag of grapes or a banana. Maybe you crave something crunchy. An apple will do the trick.

Let Loose and Juice

Juicing organic vegetables and fruits is an easy way to incorporate a high serving of raw fruits and veggies into your diet. If you do not want to invest in a juicer and juice every day, treat yourself to a raw juice at a local juice bar at least once a week. Start with produce that you are familiar with and know you like. The more you go back to the juice bar, the more adventures you can get. A helpful tip is that apples always seem to sweeten up a juice, especially ones with a lot of green.

Time Out for Relaxation

Although there is still not enough empirical evidence to support that stress is the cause of most of our diseases, many scientist are now hypothesizing that relaxation may help with anxiety, depression and some types of pain. Keep in mind that relaxation does not mean you forget everything that is going on in your life. Instead, it means you alter your current physiological state. Breathing deeply and slowly will slow down your heart rate and lower your blood pressure. You may even undergo a sense of happiness, joy and well-being, achieving the relaxation response.
