How to Indian Wrestle

    Both contestants must lay on the floor. Each contestant is required to lay on the floor with their hips even with one another, but each player laying in the opposite direction.

    Next, each player raises their legs up in the air three times with their leg at a ninety degree angle to their body. Each time their leg reaches the top they count, 1, 2, 3 and then yell "go!"

    The two contestants must lock legs at the knee and push forward with all their strength trying to flip the other contestant backward.

    Once one contestant has completely flipped the other player over the game is over and the winner is declared. Continue the process until only one person remains.


  • Try creating a bracket for an Indian wrestling tournament. It's a great way to spend the day with your Boyscout troop or with your youth organization.
  • If you're making a tournament chart, try to match up similar heights and weights. However, keep in mind that it's not necessarily the size of the contestant that matters but the strength of their legs. I have seen many, much smaller and younger contestants, beat out even older larger leaders in their groups.
  • To make this game even more fun, try creating a large muddy area to compete in.


  • Injuries can happen if each contestant is not careful. Be sure to make a rule that if either one of the players says ouch, or any other phrases denoting pain, both players must stop immediately.
