Untied shoelaces become a dangerous tripping hazard if left undone, even for a few minutes. Spending your time looking down at your feet when you have tasks to accomplish is frustrating and time consuming. Neatly tied shoes make a nice finishing touch to a casual outfit like a track suit or a business. Wearing shoes undone looks sloppy. Secure your shoelaces and keep your shoes on your feet by trying a few simple shoe tying techniques.

Examine your shoelaces carefully. If laces look broken or worn, replace them with new ones. The shoelaces should pass through all the holes and tie comfortably without tension. If your laces are too short, this can cause shoes to come undone.

Moisten the shoelaces with a damp washcloth prior to tying them. Once the laces dry, they will tighten up.

Untie the shoe laces and let the laces dangle down. Rub the laces with a stick of beeswax. The wax creates a sticky bond that helps keep strings together. You may have to reapply beeswax every few days for the best results.

Put on your shoes and tie them evenly using a shoelace bow. Tie a second bow in the shoelaces for additional security. Tug the bows gently to make sure they are in place and will not easily come loose.

Tips

Keep shoes in good working order by replacing worn shoelaces promptly. Purchase a pair of lace locks to keep your shoelaces in place.
