Fitness trampolines are a way to get in shape and to have fun while doing it. Some trampolines are designated specifically for fitness; these are usually small and circular. Any trampoline can be used to get fit, however. Consider how much space you have to spare and whether anyone else in your family will be using the trampoline when considering what kind to purchase. Discuss your plans for exercise with your health care provider before you begin.
Exercise and Obesity
Exercise can be a big part of finding success in weight loss. If you are obese, which means your body mass index is higher than 30, try to get at least 150 minutes every week of moderate-intensity exercise. To get better results, 250 to 300 minutes of working out per week may be necessary. Using a fitness trampoline is one way to add exercise to your lifestyle.
Buying a Fitness Trampoline
Fitness trampolines can be purchased online or in some stores. Always check the weight limit on trampolines when buying, and buy a trampoline that can accommodate more than you weigh, to be on the safe side. Small 36-40" trampolines generally have a weight limit of 200-300 pounds. Some larger 14-16' trampolines can hold up to 350 pounds. Trampolines with higher weight limits may be extremely difficult to find, if they exist at all. Small circular trampolines can be used indoors if desired, while larger models must be set up outside. Also, consider accessories when buying a trampoline. You may want to consider buying a safety net to go around the trampoline if it is large and higher off the ground to prevent bouncing off of it, especially if children will also be using the trampoline or there is a hard surface beneath. If you have kids or pets, you may also want to purchase a safety border for the bottom of the trampoline to prevent anyone from getting under the trampoline while you're using it.
Starting to Work Out on Your Fitness Trampoline
When starting any workout routine, begin slowly and build up to your goals to avoid injury. You can work out on a fitness trampoline simply by jumping on it, or you can use a more structured routine, such as in a fitness trampoline workout video. Some gyms even have classes to teach you the basics of working out on a trampoline.
Consult Your Doctor
It's always a good idea to get approval from your doctor before starting to work out, but this is especially important for those who are obese or morbidly obese, as these populations are more at risk of serious medical conditions, like high blood pressure or diabetes. Your doctor will also be able to give you specific recommendations for how often and how long you should work out.
