How to Put on a Basketball Net

Having a net attached to the basketball rim is not absolutely necessary to play a game. However, because the net is somewhat smaller at the open end, the ball makes a swoosh sound and visibly expands the net as it passes through. Attaching a net to the rim is a relatively simple procedure that is the same for basketball hoops at home, school or on the playground.

Set up a step ladder underneath the basketball hoop. Use a ladder tall enough for you to reach the basketball rim without standing on the top rung.

Spread out the netting on the floor or ground to determine the top end from the bottom end. The top is wider than the bottom.

Grasp the net by the top and climb up the ladder. Hold a strand of netting with both hands between your thumbs and forefingers. Your hands should be about two inches apart.

Slide the netting down over one of the hooks on the underside of the rim, and then push it up and under the other part of the hook to secure it in place.

Move to the next hook, and continue the same procedure all the way around the rim. Adjust the net by pulling down on it after all hooks have loops.
