Blackburn Bicycle Lights Instructions

Blackburn makes a range of rear and front headlights featuring different flash modes, power levels, styles and sizes. The lights are reliable and the company has made usage easy, with just one or two buttons for power and flash modes. They also mount quickly to the bike and battery replacement or charging happens in a few easy steps.

Mounting Instructions

There are two options for mounting your light depending on if it is a front or rear light. Each front light and some rear lights come with a strap that will go through the underside of each light. There are two loops on the back of the lights that you will run the strap through. The light needs to be wrapped around the handlebar or seat post depending on if it is a tail light or a headlight.

The other mounting option is just for the rear and the light mounts via a belt clip. Attach the clip to your bike and then attach the light to the clip.

Batteries and Power

Some Blackburn lights require AA or AAA batteries and some lights have rechargeable batteries via USB. Higher end options also have solar chargers.

To install the AA or AAA batteries, slide the back off the battery holder and insert the batteries, then replace the battery cover.

To charge a Blackburn light take it off your bike and connect it to the specific USB mount, which can be plugged into a computer or other power source to charge.

These lights do not have a battery memory, so you don't need to let them drain till there is no life left to recharge them on the UBS charger. You can charge them as much as you want. The best thing to do is to not let them drain to zero power because over a period of time that will lower the battery life while the light is on. The head light gets three to five hours of run time while the tail light gets six to 12 hours of run time.

Turning On and Off

There is a black or gray "on" and "off" button for both rear and front that power the light. The button is on the top center of the headlight and the center front for the tail light. You may need to scroll through the flash modes to turn the light off dependent on your flash model.

Flash Modes

Blackburn lights have different flash modes depending on the style of light. All lights come with the flash modes and most also have a steady or standard light. Some lights come with an additional overdrive or chaser mode. Flash mode conserves the most energy so your light will work longest in that mode.

The mode you choose will be based on weather, time of day, riding conditions and available light. Scrolling through the flash modes is as easy as the push of a button. The flash button is often the same button as the on and off button on most lights.
