Exercise Clothes for Tall Women

If you are a tall woman, you probably already know how difficult it can be to find clothes that fit you. Exercise clothes are no exception. Tops shorts and pants are too short, and long sleeves aren't long enough. If your exercise clothes do not fit properly, it can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Fortunately, if you are a tall woman, several sizes and types of exercise clothes exist that can let you accomplish your exercise goals in comfort and style.

Tall women often have long torsos. If your top is not long enough, the bottom of your stomach or lower back can be exposed unintentionally. Tunic-style workout tops are a sensible option for you; the added length can increase your comfort and avoid the feeling that you constantly have to pull your top down. If you have long arms, three-quarter-length sleeves are a happy medium that can look and feel just right. If you want long sleeves, you can find tops designed with extra-long sleeves available at stores that specialize in clothing for tall women.

If your pants are not long enough, look for workout pants in size "tall," which can have up to a 41-inch inseam. Do not get pants that are so long as to be a safety hazard and hinder your movement. Another option is to use Bermuda-style shorts or capris as workout bottoms. Bermuda shorts are longer than typical shorts, and generally fall on or just above the knee. Capris are longer than Bermuda shorts and generally fall below the knee or on the shin. Such styles leave room for flexibility; even if they're shorter on you than on smaller women, they won't appear disproportionally short.

Many sporting goods stores and department stores offer exercise clothes, and some stores specialize in clothing for tall women. Catalogs and online retailers also have offerings for tall women. You may also want to take a peek in the men's activewear department at clothing stores. You may be perfectly happy with a pair of loose-fitting jogging pants.

Once you have found exercise clothes that fit, the last thing you want is for them to shrink. Follow the care instructions on the label. When in doubt, wash your exercise clothes in a cold, gentle cycle. Dry them on low heat or air fluff for no more than 10 minutes, or line dry. Letting your exercise clothes air dry will eliminate the chance of accidentally shrinking them.
