Online Degrees in Exercise Science
People who study exercise science have opportunities to educate others about how to live healthier lives. Alternatively, some people who want to study exercise science are unable to attend traditional classes and can benefit from the flexibility of online programs. There are several options for online exercise science degrees.
Fresno Pacific University
Fresno Pacific University offers a master’s degree program that is delivered completely online; students may complete the program in as little as 14 months. The degree has three different areas of emphasis: physical education, sport administration and athletic training. Depending on the area, students take courses related to sports psychology, kinesiology and therapeutic exercise. Because of the length of the program, courses are not offered on a semester-based schedule; rather, students must take classes throughout the summer to fulfill requirements.
The University of Texas
The University of Texas at Tyler has an online program that culminates in a master’s of science in kinesiology. Students take courses online that are offered at the same time as students in the traditional classroom, thereby giving them the ability to participate in classroom discussions and have interactions with the instructors. Typical classes in this exercise science program include motor skills, exercise physiology and biomechanics. The total program is 36 hours and prepares students for future careers in coaching, physical education or athletic training.
California University of Pennsylvania offers a master’s degree program in exercise science that is delivered entirely online. Students may focus on one of four areas that are offered, including sport psychology, rehabilitation science, wellness and fitness or sport performance enhancement and injury prevention. The program culminates in a master of science degree in exercise science and health promotion. Students are required to take courses in exercise physiology, nutrition, research, leadership and professional development. If you currently hold a master’s degree in another area, you may also take the online courses to lead to a post-master’s certificate.
Ashford University offers an online program that results in a Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Studies. The school provides a transfer concentration program in exercise science that allows you to pursue that specialty while transferring up to 12 credit hours of coursework from another institution. Typical courses through this program include adult physical development, health care ethics, and community health and working with special populations, such as geriatric or pediatric care.
