Least Expensive Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 Pro Elliptical

NordicTrack offers quality fitness equipment, warranties and customer support, so you can have confidence in even the least expensive of its elliptical trainers. In this case, it's the Audiostrider 990-Pro. The best part about this machine is not its price, however. The 990-Pro is a rear-driven, stable and comfortable machine with various resistance levels. It also folds up for easy storage as part of your home gym

Call It Out

The biggest difference between the Audiostrider 990-Pro and the other NordicTrack ellipticals is the location of the drive unit. Typically, rear-driven elliptical trainers are more expensive than front-driven units. The reasons for this, according to the American College of Sports Medicine, are that a rear-driven unit has a more comfortable stride and an adjustable incline. The 990-Pro has an 18-inch stride with wide pedal platforms so you can change the width of your foot position. It also has an easily adjustable ramp to change the incline of your workout.

The Basics

The console of Audiostrider 990 contains the basic information necessary to track your workout. The display shows you the time, resistance, distance, heart rate and an estimate of the calories burned. Even though billed as an inexpensive unit, the 990 includes heart rate sensors in the handlebars to monitor your workout intensity. The elliptical also has 22 resistance levels so as your fitness improves, you can continue using the machine to better your health.

ACSM recommends measuring the space for your equipment to ensure you have enough floor space at home. (Ref. 2) The 990 requires 80 inches in length, 32 inches in width and 77 inches in height. It folds up for storage and has wheels to easily transport your machine from one room to the next. One of the nicest benefits of this inexpensive elliptical is that it snaps together in three steps, so you can begin your exercise program almost immediately.

Look Into The Future

When deciding to purchase home gym equipment, ACSM recommends looking for a minimum of a one-year warranty. The 990-Pro has a lifetime warranty on the frame when the maximum user weight does not exceed 325 pounds. The machine has a two-year parts and a one-year labor warranty. The flywheel on the machine weighs 18 pounds and offers a smooth rotation for a comfortable workout session.
